David Chen, MD, is a Chevy Chase, Maryland, psychiatrist has served as clinical supervisor with George Washington University’s Department of Psychiatry since 2018. A respected voice, he has been a faculty lecturer with the Children’s National Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry on Advanced Pediatric Psychopharmacology. Dr. David Chen’s past positions extend to a chairman role with the Committee on Continuing Medical Education of the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis.
From 2009 to 2014, David Chen, MD undertook a clinical research fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He focused on genome-wide association study data related to bipolar disorder (BD) and pediatric bipolar disorder (PBD) phenotypes. His team made significant discoveries in the area of bipolar disease (BD) risk genes. In one breakthrough study, he undertook meta-analysis across 750, 000 high-quality genetic markers spanning 14,000 subjects of Asian and European ancestry. His team identified TRANK1, PTGFR, and LMAN2L as novel candidate genes for BD.
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certified, Dr. Chen has more than 15 years of private practice experience diagnosing and treating clients with impulse control disorder, early-onset BP, and co-morbid addictions. Beyond his work as a Chevy Chase psychiatrist, he has undertaken extensive field research in Pennsylvania and in 2014 authored “Amish Revisited: Next Generation Sequencing Studies of Psychiatric Disorders Among the Plain People.”
